The Top Gun Dirt Series had their 4th race of the season at the North Florida Speedway.  Twenty-three cars showed up ready to race.  After a disappointing 6th place finish in the heat race, Amanda's crew went to work trying to tighten up her car.  After a major stagger adjustment she hoped the car would be better in the 25 lap feature.  After her poor finish in the heat race, Amanda found herself starting in the 19th position.  Knowing she had a lot of ground to make up she hoped the changes made were enough.  When the green flag dropped she immediately passed the 11D car going into turn one.  Unfortunately, she still felt her car was a bit too loose and she started searching for a groove where her car would work.  As the race went on, Amanda found her car beginning to tighten up some and she found a higher groove on the track that seemed to work.  As the laps wore down, she began picking off cars one at a time.  When the checkered flag dropped she found herself finishing in 10th place.  It was not the finish she was hoping for but she is looking forward to her next dirt race in July at Volusia Speedway Park.  Amanda's next asphalt race is July 4th at CCMP in Punta Gorda, FL.

There were 14 sprint cars ready to race at CCMP Saturday night.  The night started with Amanda in the second heat race.  When the 15 of Geoff Styner fell to the the rear of the field, Amanda found herself starting on the pole.  She wasted no time in taking the lead despite the efforts of #51, Mark Gimmler, to pass her.  She held on to finish first in her heat.  This makes three races in a row where she has won her heat race.  The feature saw Amanda starting in the 5th position.  Amanda quickly made her way into second where she tried to pass the #82 of Brian Maddox.  Brian had the low side covered, leaving Amanda only the high side to make the pass.  With a car that was pushing Amanda was unable to make the pass stick.  After about 8 laps, the #67 of Scott Adema caught her and the #82.   After taking a bump from behind, Amanda's car slid up the track allowing several cars to slip past her.  Amanda found herself running in the 7th place position as the laps wore down.  Finally, on the final lap, she decided it was now or never and moving to the high side Amanda made her move on the two cars running in the 5th and 6th positions.  Hoping her car wouldn't push up to the wall, she moved high to pass the 6th place car coming out of turn 2 and finally the 5th place car coming out of turn 4.   She finished the race in 5th place.  Amanda's next race will be in her dirt car at North Florida Speedway.  She will be back on asphalt at Charlotte County Motorsports Park on the 4th of July.

Racing at New Smyrna
June 6, 2009

New Smyrna was one of the few lucky tracks this weekend as rain kept most tracks from racing.   The Checkered Flag Sprint Series made their debut at New Smyrna Speedway with 14 cars ready to try out this large, 1/2 mile oval race track.  After two rounds of practice, the entire field agreed this was one fast, fun track.  Amanda's evening started great.  She started third in her heat race.  As the cars took the green flag, Amanda made her move.  Dropping to the bottom of the racetrack she was able to pass both front row cars before entering turn 1.  She stayed out in front the remainder of the heat race.  Gary Gimmler made several attempts to pass her on the outside but was unable to complete the pass.  This was Amanda's second win in a heat race.  Starting on the outside pole for the feature, Amanda knew her car was fast and she was confident she would have a great finish this evening.  Unfortunately, on lap 1 going through turn 2, a car behind her ran into her right rear.  As sparks flew, Amanda found herself bumping like a pinball off other cars.  As she regained control going into turn 3 she began accelerating only to realize her car was headed straight to the wall due to a flat right rear.  The #67 of Scotty Adema was on her outside and as the two cars came together sparks showered the track as Scotty's nerf bar scraped the concrete wall.  Both cars spun down into the middle of the track coming to a stop in front of the field.  Fortunately, all cars managed to miss the two cars as the race went to yellow.  After coming into the pits, the crew slapped on a very used right rear and sent Amanda back out to rejoin the tail of the field.  As the green flag fell, Amanda went to work passing every car she could.  Amanda had worked her way up to sixth place when disaster struck the KJ Motorsports team.  Keith Butler, looking to pass the leader found himself too high on the track and into the wall.  His car climbed the fence and flipped numerous times before coming to a stop in turn 4.  While Keith was uninjured, his car was beyond repair ending his 5 race winning streak.  Amanda finished the race in 5th place, her first top 5 with KJ Motorsports.  Look for Amanda next weekend back at CCMP in Punta Gorda, FL.

Seventeen cars showed up ready to race the Checkered Flag Sprint Series 5th race of the season.  Not wanting to have a repeat of the Citrus County Speedway race KJ Motorsports and Amanda Ferguson Motorsports spent most of the day working to get the car right.  When race time rolled around Amanda was finally ready to race.  Amanda was in heat two starting on the outside front row.  After taking the green flag it was a race to see who would get to turn 1 first.  Amanda easily beat the #37 to turn 1 and took the lead.  Lap 2 saw the #67 of Scott Adema slide up to the outside of Amanda.  Determined not to give up the lead, Amanda held her line and raced side by side with the #67 for two laps.  Finally, Amanda was able to pull into the lead again where she stayed until the checkered flag fell.  Amanda was very excited to finally get her first heat race win with the CFSS.  In the feature, Amanda found herself starting in the third position behind the #37.  Once again the race was on as the green flag dropped.  Amanda dropped low and passed the #37 going into turn 1.  As Amanda went low the #47 and #5W went high on the outside.  As they came out of turn 2 Amanda found herself running in third behind Mike Koss and Stan Butler.  The car was great and it looked like it was going to be another great run when Amanda got loose coming out of turn 4 in lap 9.  As her rear end kicked out, the #51 swerved to miss her but caught her bumper sending her around down towards the infield.  After restarting the car and falling to the back Amanda had a lot of ground to make up.  As the green flag fell, Amanda immediately went to work passing cars on the high side and low side, sometimes passing two at once.  Unfortunately, the remainder of the race would stay green and Amanda found herself unable to catch the lead pack.   She finished the race in 8th place.  Congratulations to Keith Butler on his 5th straight win.

Repair Work Begins
April 18, 2009

The repair work began on Amanda's car on Saturday.  The first job was to strip down the chassis to assess how bad the frame was damaged.  After stripping the car down, the torch came out and the cutting began.  After cutting out the damaged parts, the next step will be to weld in new bars.  The car should be ready to hit the dirt again on May 9th with the Top Gun Sprint Series at Eastbay Raceway Park.
